Utagawa Toyokuni III (also known as Kunisada I, 1786-1864) was the most popular ukiyo-e artist in the late Edo period. He skillfully depicted various subjects, from portraits of actors and beautiful women to depictions of renowned sites. Additionally, he was also known for his close friendship with Hiroshige, collaborating on joint works. This special exhibition delves into Toyokuni III's artistic journey, particularly highlighting his highway series.
